This piece is a museum quality antique copper anklet or dowry currency from the Mbole or the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Mbole are a very small ethnic group from Southeastern DRC. They make copper anklet bracelets used for currency or major transactions. Formally used in the exchange of a bride as part of her dowry currency and represented their status. Usually forged onto the women's legs or ankles and worn for a lifetime. Now, strictly used as currency. This unique piece is hand-hammered, and offers a unique art form and part of history for any eclectic decor or collector.
